Around the age of 50 stiffness, pain and reduced range of motion in one or both shoulders may seemingly spontaneously occur. This experience is commonly referred to as the 50 year old shoulder, adhesive capsulitis, menopausal shoulder or frozen shoulder. Particularly prevalent in women it is suggested that hormonal shifts during perimenopause may contribute to the development of this sort of shoulder pain.
