Why Shockwave Therapy?

  • Promotes tissue healing and regeneration
  • Reduces pain and inflammation
  • Stimulates collagen production
  • Non-invasive alternative to surgery
  • Improves joint flexibility and mobility

What Is Shockwave Therapy?

Radial shockwave therapy uses high pressured acoustic shockwaves that travel through the skin to break down targeted tissue and stimulate tissue repair. Essentially this electrotherapy device helps kick start the body’s natural healing mechanisms.

ESWT Is An Effective Treatment Approach

ESWT is a research proven approach used in physiotherapy that can be highly effective in treating many chronic musculoskeletal conditions including:

Shockwave therapy physio is frequently effective where previous conservative management has failed. Fantastic at resolving what can be stubborn complaints, such as the above listed conditions.

How Soon Will I See Results With ESWT?

Many patients can experience a small pain reduction and greater freedom of movement immediately after the procedure. However, this is usually temporary and true results are not seen till at least a few days after treatment. Ultimately best results follow a few months after the treatment course.

How Does Shockwave Treatment Work?

The treatment has several mechanisms behind the impressive results, including:

  • Increasing circulation
  • Breaking down calcification deposits
  • Stimulating fibroblast (soft tissue cells) production – healing ligaments, tendons, muscles…
  • Stimulating osteoblast (bone cells) production – healing bone
  • Stimulating the “gate-control” mechanism for pain relief
  • Inhibiting Cox II Enzyme, producing an anti-inflammatory effect

What Does A Shockwave Therapy Physio Treatment Session Involve?

Radial shockwave therapy is a safe, non-invasive procedure. A contact gel is applied to the area, then a handheld probe is applied to the skin. The probe delivers the acoustic waves in a controlled and focused manner for typically no more than 5 minutes per injured area.

How Many Sessions Is A Course Of Shockwave Therapy?

A course of ESWT usually consists of weekly treatments for 3-6 weeks. Chronic long-standing conditions are likely to require a longer treatment course. As are people receiving the treatment for assisting with managing problems causing significant pain.

New To Australia But Not To The World

Despite being relatively new to Australia, the treatment has been in use in North America and Europe (where the technology was invented) for years. At Sydney Physio Clinic we have been performing shockwave therapy physio sessions on our clients for over 8 years. Being one of the first physiotherapy practices in Australia to offer patients the DolorClast Master Touch machine. DolorClast was the inventor of radial shockwave therapy and since inventing the technology continually strives to improve the quality treatment their machines deliver. Most of the research quoted and carried out on radial shockwave therapy has been conducted using DolorClast machines. So if you are wanting to assure your results match the research, then having ESWT from a DolorClast machine is the way to go.

What Shockwave Therapy Machine Is Used At Sydney Physio Clinic?

When deciding which shockwave therapy machine to offer at our practice we trialed several of machines on offer. Following a lengthy trial period, it was clear there was no comparison to the quality of treatment that the DolorClast shockwave machines provide. Hence Sydney Physio Clinic is now able to offer their clients what we feel is the best quality radial shockwave machine on the market. With the DolorClast Master Touch machine in the CBD and the brand new DolorClast® Radial Shock Waves in our Randwick physio practice. The DolorClast Master Touch is a top of the line ESWT machine.
