A dislocated knee cap, medically referred to as a dislocated patella, is a relatively common injury. Particularly so among adolescents and young adults. It typically occurs when the kneecap slips out of its normal groove on the femur. This movement is almost always laterally, where the knee cap shifts toward the outside of the knee.
