Pelvic Floor & Inner Thigh Trainer
The Pelvic Floor Trainer is an adjustable resistance exercise device designed primarily for strengthening the inner thigh and hip adductor muscles. It may also be incorporated into selected pelvic floor strengthening and rehabilitation programs.
Unlike basic fixed-resistance thigh trainers, this model includes two interchangeable resistance springs, additional tension adjustment and swivelling contoured thigh pads. This allows the exercise to be adapted to the individual and progressively increased as strength and exercise tolerance improve.
Adjustable Resistance for Progressive Exercise
The trainer includes two interchangeable springs to provide different levels of resistance. The blue spring provides lighter resistance, while the red spring provides higher resistance.
A separate adjustment dial at the base of the trainer provides further tension adjustment. Together, the interchangeable springs and adjustment dial allow the training resistance to be modified according to the exercise, current strength and stage of rehabilitation.
This makes the trainer particularly useful for progressive exercise programs where resistance can be adjusted over time rather than relying on a single fixed resistance level.
Pelvic Floor and Inner Thigh Training
The trainer is positioned between the thighs and compressed against resistance, providing a simple way to perform resisted hip adduction exercises at home.
The pelvic floor does not work in isolation. Depending on the individual and the exercise being performed, pelvic floor muscle activity can occur alongside muscles around the hips, abdomen and pelvis.
For some people, resisted hip adduction may therefore be incorporated into a broader exercise program that includes specific pelvic floor muscle training.
However, squeezing an inner thigh trainer is not the same as performing an isolated pelvic floor contraction or Kegel exercise. We recommend considering the trainer an exercise tool that may complement an appropriate pelvic floor program rather than a device that automatically strengthens the pelvic floor.
Swivelling Contoured Thigh Pads
The trainer features contoured non-slip thigh pads designed to sit comfortably against the inside of the legs during exercise.
The pads can swivel rather than remaining fixed in a single position. This allows the contact surfaces to adapt to different leg positions and exercise postures while maintaining comfortable contact with the thighs.
Track Your Exercise Sessions
A compact built-in digital display records exercise time, frequency and repetitions, with a simple reset button for starting a new session.
The display is compact and is best considered a simple exercise counter for reviewing a completed session rather than a screen designed for continuous viewing while exercising.
Key Features
- Two resistance springs – includes a blue spring for lighter resistance and a red spring for higher resistance.
- Interchangeable spring system – change between the two springs to alter the overall training resistance.
- Additional tension adjustment – a separate adjustment dial provides further control over exercise resistance.
- Progressive resistance training – exercise difficulty can be adjusted as strength and exercise tolerance improve.
- Contoured non-slip thigh pads – shaped contact surfaces provide comfortable and secure contact against the inner thighs.
- Swivelling pad design – allows the thigh pads to adapt to different leg positions and exercise postures.
- Exercise tracking display – records time, frequency and repetitions with a simple reset function.
- Solid construction – approximately 0.8 kg for a substantial exercise device.
- Versatile exercise tool – designed primarily for inner thigh and hip training and may be incorporated into selected pelvic floor exercise programs.
Who May Benefit From This Trainer?
The Pelvic Floor Trainer may be useful for people completing an exercise program involving the inner thigh, hip adductor or pelvic region.
It may also be incorporated into selected women’s health, postnatal or pelvic floor rehabilitation programs when appropriate for the individual.
The adjustable resistance makes it particularly useful when an exercise program needs to be progressed over time rather than using the same resistance throughout rehabilitation.
How to Use the Inner Thigh Trainer
For a basic inner thigh exercise, select an appropriate spring and resistance setting before positioning the contoured pads comfortably against the inside of the thighs.
Slowly squeeze the thighs together against the resistance of the trainer, then return towards the starting position with control. Resistance, repetitions and exercise position can be adjusted according to your individual program.
Start with a comfortable resistance that allows you to maintain good control. Resistance can then be progressively increased using the adjustment dial or higher-resistance spring as strength improves.
If the trainer has been recommended as part of pelvic floor rehabilitation, follow the technique and exercise dosage provided by your physiotherapist. This may include coordinating the movement with a specific pelvic floor contraction.
Pelvic Floor Exercises Are Individual
Pelvic floor symptoms can have different causes, and strengthening exercises are not appropriate for everyone. Some people may have pelvic floor muscles that are overactive or have difficulty relaxing rather than simply being weak.
If you experience pelvic pain, pain during intercourse, difficulty emptying your bladder or bowel, or other persistent pelvic symptoms, consider having an individual assessment before beginning a pelvic floor strengthening program.
Use as Part of a Rehabilitation Program
A Pelvic Floor Trainer should be considered an exercise aid rather than a stand-alone treatment for pelvic floor symptoms.
Depending on the individual, rehabilitation may involve specific pelvic floor exercises, hip and trunk strengthening, breathing and pressure-management strategies, gradual return to exercise and other individually prescribed exercises.
Our Women’s Health Physiotherapy team can assess pelvic floor function and help determine whether strengthening exercises and this type of resistance trainer are appropriate for you.
