Night Wrap Recovery System – Overnight Topical Support Method
The Night Wrap Recovery System is a physio-inspired overnight topical application method designed to support temporary relief of swelling, reactive tendon irritation, bruising and acute inflammatory flare-ups.
This structured overnight setup combines Voltaren Emulgel, Hirudoid cream and wrap retention materials into one convenient system designed to simplify overnight topical wrapping.
Many people already attempt DIY overnight solution wrapping methods at home. However, sourcing the correct products, applying them consistently and keeping wraps in place overnight can often become frustrating or inconsistent.
The Night Wrap Recovery System was designed to remove some of that guesswork by providing a guided all-in-one setup commonly recommended in clinical practice for short-term inflammatory flare management.
The aim is not to replace proper rehabilitation or medical management. Instead, this system is designed to provide a practical overnight topical support option during periods of increased pain, swelling or tendon irritation.
What Is Included?
- 1 x 20g Voltaren Emulgel tube
- 1 x 20g Hirudoid cream tube
- 5 x overnight wrap application sheets
- 2 x retention over-bandages suitable for ankle, wrist, elbow, knee application
How The Night Wrap Recovery System Works
The Night Wrap method combines topical anti-inflammatory support with prolonged overnight skin contact using an occlusive wrapping approach.
Voltaren Emulgel contains diclofenac, a topical non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication (NSAID). Research supports topical diclofenac for temporary relief of pain and inflammation in certain superficial musculoskeletal conditions.
Unlike oral anti-inflammatory medications, topical diclofenac works more locally at the treatment site. This may help reduce systemic exposure compared to oral NSAID use.
Hirudoid cream contains heparinoid, which has traditionally been used to assist bruising, swelling and superficial inflammatory conditions. It may help support local circulation and tissue recovery in acute soft tissue presentations.
The overnight wrapping layer helps maintain prolonged skin contact of the topical creams while reducing evaporation overnight.
Occlusive dressing principles are already widely used in dermatology and topical medication delivery. The Night Wrap method adapts these concepts into a practical overnight topical support approach commonly used in clinical settings.
Importantly, evidence specifically evaluating combined overnight wrapping methods remains limited. Current use of the Night Wrap approach is therefore based on a combination of topical medication evidence, occlusive dressing principles and clinical experience.
Who May Benefit?
The Night Wrap Recovery System is most commonly used during acute inflammatory or reactive phases where swelling, irritation or tendon crepitus are present.
In clinical practice, this style of overnight topical wrapping may sometimes be used alongside rehabilitation for:
- Achilles tendon irritation and paratenon inflammation
- De Quervain’s tenosynovitis
- Peroneal tendon irritation
- Tibialis posterior tendon pain
- Reactive tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow
- FHL tendon irritation
- Acute ankle sprains with swelling
- Bruising and soft tissue irritation
Generally, this approach appears less useful for long-standing degenerative tendon presentations without active inflammation.
How To Apply The Night Wrap
- Apply a 50:50 mix of Voltaren Emulgel and Hirudoid cream to the affected area.
- Gently massage into the skin for approximately 2–3 minutes.
- Apply a second light layer of 50:50 mix over the treatment area without fully rubbing it in.
- Place the overnight wrap sheet over the area.
- Use the included retention bandage to help prevent the wrap from shifting or coming undone overnight.
- Remove the wrap in the morning and wash the skin if required.
Always follow the individual medication packaging instructions and dosage recommendations.
Important Precautions
This product is not suitable for everyone. Please read the precautions carefully before use.
- Do not use if you are allergic to diclofenac, NSAIDs, heparinoids or related ingredients.
- Do not apply to broken, infected or irritated skin.
- Avoid use immediately following surgery unless specifically advised by your medical professional.
- Do not combine with heat packs or heated devices.
- Stop use immediately if skin irritation, rash or excessive redness develops.
- Patch testing on a small area is recommended before larger applications.
- Use cautiously if you have sensitive skin or a history of topical medication reactions.
- Seek medical advice before use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
- Not recommended for children unless advised by a healthcare professional.
- The included bandages are designed to help retain the wrap in place and are not intended to provide therapeutic compression.
- Avoid wrapping excessively tightly as this may irritate the skin or impair circulation.
Research and Evidence
Topical diclofenac has been extensively studied for temporary relief of musculoskeletal pain and inflammatory conditions. Systematic reviews support its use in certain superficial tendon, joint and soft tissue presentations.
Topical NSAIDs may provide meaningful short-term pain relief while reducing systemic exposure compared to oral anti-inflammatory medications.
Heparinoid-based creams such as Hirudoid have also been investigated for bruising, swelling and superficial thrombophlebitis. Evidence suggests they may assist local circulation and inflammatory resolution in some acute soft tissue conditions.
While research specifically evaluating combined overnight occlusive wrapping systems remains limited, the Night Wrap method is based on established topical medication principles, occlusive dressing concepts and clinical experience.
